    Piazza Zenetti and Holzplatz were first temporarily transformed – through the reallocation of car parking spaces for people, public use and enjoyment – in 2018 and 2021, respectively. The spaces continue to evolve each year.
  • Development of EX-TRA project

    May 2022

    Piazza Zenetti and Holzplatz were chosen as case studies for the EX-TRA project and collaboration began between the University of Westminster, Technical University of Munich, the City of Munich and Green City Experience.
  • Summer Plazas for 2022 announced

  • Streets come alive and launch of Commonplace

    The Summer Plazas will come alive, with citizen's activities (Piazza Zenetti) and physical transformation into a car-free space (Holzplatz). The EX-TRA Commonplace website is launched, with citizens’ perspectives collected through the surveys.

    March 2024

    The University of Westminster and the Technical University of Munich will analyse data collected via Commonplace for the purposes of academic research. You can follow the publication of the research findings at: https://www.ex-tra-project.eu/blog. The EX-TRA project will inform the City of Munich about the survey responses that reflect Munich citizens’ perspectives; however, the City will make its own separate decision about the future of Piazza Zenetti and Holzplatz.
